In the morning, after pickup from your Marrakech hotel or riad, travel in luxury by air-conditioned 4x4 vehicle or minibus through the Atlas Mountains and cross the Tizi-n-Tichka pass at 2,260 meters. As your small group makes its way into the Sahara Desert along the old caravan route from Marrakech, your guide will share with you historical information and stories about this fascinating area.
Arrive in Aït Benhaddou after a 3-hour drive and visit its impressive complex kasbah, or castle, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The well-preserved architecture of Aït Benhaddou has been featured in numerous films, including Jesus of Nazareth, Star Wars, and Babel.
Continue another 33 km to Ouarzazate, which is situated on the cusp of the magnificent Sahara Desert. This popular tourist town is home to Atlas Film Studios, the world's largest film studio. Many famous movies such as Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and The Mummy have been filmed here, as well as episodes of the TV show Game of Thrones.
Pause for lunch at a city restaurant (own expense) and savor a fantastic view of the ancient Kasba Taourirt, a 300-room palace. Afterward, spend the afternoon exploring the Atlas Film Studios or the Film Museum (own expense). You will return to Marrakech as the sun sets and arrive at your hotel or riad at 7pm.
